If I Die and some commenting on My Soul to Steal

Title: If I Die (Soul Screamers #5)
Author: Rachel Vincent
Pages: 342
Rating: 4 out of 5 stars
Genre: Young Adult and Paranormal
Release date: September 27th 2011

Synopsis - The entire school's talking about the gorgeous new math teacher, Mr. Beck. Everyone except Kaylee Cavanaugh. After all, Kaylee's no ordinary high-school junior. She's a banshee—she screams when someone dies.
But the next scream might be for Kaylee.
Yeah—it's a shock to her, too. So to distract herself, Kaylee's going to save every girl in school. Because that hot new teacher is really an incubus who feeds on the desire of unsuspecting students. The only girls immune to his lure are Kaylee and Sabine, her boyfriend's needy ex-girlfriend. Now the unlikely allies have to get rid of Mr. Beck…before he discovers they aren't quite human, either.
But Kaylee's borrowed lifeline is nearing its end. And those who care about her will do anything to save her life.
Anything.

My thoughts - I have to think I liked If I Die better then My Soul To Steal. When I My Soul to Steal I started to get impatient with Nash and Kaylee constantly fighting, and never truly getting along. I was truely annoyed by the end I think my review for that is kind of a hint - "This book was driving me insane. Kaylee either loved him or she didn't. She should just end up with Tod and leave Her stupid Boyfriend to Sabine." Such a short review/rant, and it said so much.
So when my copy of If I Die came in from my library I wasn't certain rather to read it or not. So there it sat on my floor in a pile of books, and one  night (last night) I finally decided to read it. Nash and Kaylee weren't AS annoying as in the other book until the break up then he became a huge @**. After that I now hate him. I always new I'd like Tod in the end even if he like apricot jam. Yummy right?
The ending shocked me, and yet I had a feeling something like this was going to happen. Just one of those gut feeling you get. I was a little mad as I read it to hen I got to the last page. Here's something you might like. :) "In answer, Tod kissed me." Bet your wondering how this came to be and what he's answering.
Another thing before this review ends. Nash is a idiot!!!!

Lord of the Vampires

Title: Lord of the Vampires (Royal House of Shadows, #1
Author: Gena Showalter
Pages: 288
Rating: 4 out of fives stars
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Release date: August 23rd 2011

Synopsis - Once upon a time…the Blood Sorcerer vanquished the kingdom of Elden. To save their children, the queen scattered them to safety and the king filled them with a need for vengeance. Only a magical timepiece connects the four royal heirs…and time is running out.   Nicolai the Vampire is renowned for his virility, but in a cruel twist of fate “The Dark Seducer” has become a sex slave in the kingdom of Delfina—stripped of his precious timepiece and his memory. All that remains is a primal need for freedom, revenge—and the only woman who can help him.   When the wanton vampire summons Jane Parker, she is helpless to obey. She's drawn to his dark sexuality and into his magical realm. But for this human, all is not a fairy tale. For saving Nicolai could mean losing the only man she's ever craved.

My thoughts: When I read this the characters seemed like they were missing something. I liked their personalities but they're a little to common. You could almost predict what was going to happen. It never truly shocked me. I'll read the next three books and see how it ends.
Jane Parker was the character I liked more. Figuring her out took a little more time, and some of it shocked me. (sarcasm)
If the book had more feeling and depth behind it I truly think I could have enjoyed  the story.

Then I Met My Sister

Title: Then I Met My Sister
Author: Christine Hurley Deriso
Pages:265
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars
Genre: Young adult
Release date: Published April 8th 2011

Synopsis: "It's not exactly easy living in a shrine to your dead sister. Since birth, I've known that everyone loved Shannon. She was perfect—beautiful, smart, talented. And me? Not so much. My parents always expected me to live up to her greatness. But I could never measure up to her, so why even try?
This summer, I've started reading the journal Shannon kept just before she died . . . and suddenly nothing is what I thought it was. The more secrets I learn about Shannon and our family, the more everything changes. And as it turns out, facing the truth is no cakewalk, either."

When I first started this I wasn't to certain rather or not I would like it. My first thoughts to this book when I saw it was-Boring looking. To my utter shock I loved the story and characters. Then I met my sister really got to me. The book wasn't set down until I was finished with it, making me super sleepy at practice the next day. But worth it all the way. My main question when I finished it was did she kill herself or not. They implied that she was to happy to kill herself, but they didn't explain more into that. Maybe if they had said what had killed her.
So the main character of this story would be Summer. A girl who lives in the shadow of her dead sister who died before her senior year, 17 years ago. Her mother keeps adding pressure to her shoulders telling her that she needs to better, by raising her grade even high, having a boyfriend, and awards for sports and academics. Summer lives far behind her sister, so when Summer acquired the journal of her sister and learns secrets about her sister and family she never knew Summer starts to realize many things have been hidden  away from her. So of course Summer has to investigate everything about the thing written by her sister.
The first 60 pages gave me this angry feeling that went away as Shannon and Summer both matured in different ways.  Shannon learned how to deal with tragedy. Summer learned how to deal with the events she learned happened before she was born, about deception. They both learned how to deal with their mother.
If you like a good suspense novel then this would be one to read. I would recommend this book to everyone, or at least to give it a try.

A Hunger Like No Other

A mythic warrior who'll stop at nothing to possess her...
After enduring years of torture from the vampire horde, Lachlain MacRieve, leader of the Lykae Clan, is enraged to find the predestined mate he's waited millennia for is a vampire. Or partly one. This Emmaline is a small, ethereal half Valkyrie/half vampire, who somehow begins to soothe the fury burning within him.
A vampire captured by her wildest fantasy...
Sheltered Emmaline Troy finally sets out to uncover the truth about her deceased parents--until a powerful Lykae claims her as his mate and forces her back to his ancestral Scottish castle. There, her fear of the Lykae--and their notorious dark desires--ebbs as he begins a slow, wicked seduction to sate her own dark cravings.
An all-consuming desire...
Yet when an ancient evil from her past resurfaces, will their desire deepen into a love that can bring a proud warrior to his knees and turn a gentle beauty into the fighter she was born to be?

A Hunger Like No Other by Kresley Cole. 4 out of 5 stars! Okay I was a little annoyed by how the book started mainly because I wasn't certain what the book was about. The summery on the book just left me even more clueless to what events might happen in the book.  This also was the first book I read by Kresley Cole, so now I'm left trying to figure out rather I'm going to read another. Just kidding! I think I might read the next book. My since of humor must be a little rusty today. Hardy har har!
Oookay dokie the main characters of this book are Lachlain MacRieve the leader of the Lykae Clan a group of shapeshifters and Emmaline Troy half Valkyrie (fey) and half vampire . Lachlain is a very interesting person. After being tortured by a horde of vampires he escapes to look for his long awaited mate. To hims shock it is a vampire that is his mate which he he has a little bit of trouble excepting. Emma was just walking through the streets in front of lots of people when all of a sudden a guy comes out of no where tearing apart everything to get to her. She of course run like any smart female would do, but of course he just toying with her. He then forced himself on her which made the book a little more odd. This little part left me weary of the book and I almost stopped reading it, but I wanted to know what happened between the two characters. I'll give the second book a chance, but if it's not very fast paced then I'll most likely set the book down. This book went by fast enough that I wasn't completely bored.
If you want to read a good old paranormal romance book that's a little different then this would be the book to read.  The book also does have a nice little glossary in the back that talked about the creatures and groups of creatures/being/paranormal whatever you want to call them.

Blood Bound ARC

Blood Bound by Rachel Vincent ARC. 4 out of 5 stars. Paranormal Fiction. Okay I'm going to make this a quick review. The switching back and fourth between characters confused me. It took me a little while the first time to figure out if that the character had been switched. After  you figured that out it became easier to notice.
Liv Warren and Cam Caballero would be the main characters. Liv was my more preferred character. Cam either  was making me mad or he was acting like the good guy. One line that stuck in my head about Cam.
"Then it hit me, like a knife to the chest."You son of a bitch," I hissed, fury burning through me like my blood was on fire. "You fucking recruited her. You didn't get promoted because you killed Lorenzo and freed all those women. You got promoted because you brought the women over with you-strait into Tower's grasp."
After that nothing changed my thoughts of him. What can I say not a big fan of anyone who acts like that.
The plot was good and it kept me reading more and more. It also took me a while to read because I kept falling asleep whenever I tried to read any book. Made me soooo mad. (Not used to waking up at 5 in the morning yet.Ack!)
The book goes on the theme that Liv's old childhood friend Anne destroys the contract that helped create peace among then after accidently creating a blood oath without knowing it.  A oath that caused them to do whatever the other person asked them to do, or die. Of course if your friend asked you to do stuff that caused you to get in trouble wouldn't you start to hate them more and more?
Another amazing book by Rachel Vincent. Now my next book to read is If I Die. Come out sooon! Woo!

Pretty ARC

Pretty by Jillian Lauren. Fiction. I had hard time figuring out what I wanted to rate this. I debated between 3 and 4 stars, and finally chose 4 out of 5 stars. Nice cover and the eyes are not open! I greatly dislike books where the people on the cover stares at you... And still stares at you. Release date August 30, 2011.
This book cover many topics from drug use to drinking problems to eating disorders. I have to say that like Crank these kind of books take patience for me to read I can't read them to fast or I get to bored easily. Unlike Crank though I didn't get the strong pull to read it all day. Thank goodness for that because then I get no sleep. Bebe almost lost everything she worked for by giving in to the need and even doing that why she was pregnant. I was thinking:You stupid person thank about the baby. What are you doing trying to get him killed? (Though also going on in my head: Was not shocked when that came up.)
I was giggling  I found out that my favorite numbers were in the book. "The clock reads 11:11." Just had to put that in the review.
Pretty is about Bebe a girl who survived a car accident while her boyfriend Aaron did not. When the accident took place they were both drunk and arguing. Not a good thing to do be doing when you can barely concentrate on the things in front of you. She then goes and lives in a what I would call a rebab home. With Susan as the head lady. "Along with the word "Concern." Susan is fond of "wonderful.""

Bebe left home and doesn't even think about going back even four years later. Bebe has a interesting personality with many many problems. You know what she looks  like her legs and hands cover in scars from the car accident. Bebe  goes through a lot in just 288 pages. She has a different way by the end of it. I gotta say I love happy endings. At least she's able to work out all the issues she has. Even if there's a slight chance the baby will inherit his fathers craziness. Let's hope not though. We don't need another person walking around calling them selves Jesus now do we? Cough cough  Jake.

Vampire Mine

Vampire Mine (Love at Stake Series #10) by Kerrelyn Sparks. 5 out of 5 stars! First my praise for the beautiful cover and also the inside flap. I am in love with it. Paranormal Romance. The main characters in Vampire Mine were Connor  Buchanan and Marielle a angel who was banished from heaven. Again Kerrelyn Leaves me wanting more and waiting for her next book Sexiest Vampire Alive.
After being banished from heaven for making three big mistakes. Connor finds her after she lost her wings and takes her to Roman for some help. Connor didn't know that taking her back would only cause more problems. So now Connor takes on the duty of her protector promising that he would help her get back in heaven.
Connor is a almost 500 years old, and at his midlife crisis moment where he rather be alone and by himself then with the company of other. Marielle is about as old as time itself. Yet when she comes to the human world she knows very little and is with some help she becomes better equipped to the human world. Both of the characters are well written, and Connors background story was long awaited. I never expected what had happened. Connor changes a lot in this story he learns how to let go of his past with the help of Marielle.
Vampire Mine takes place most of the time in Howard's cabin. A place where Marielle could learn how to adept to the human world with out harming any humans in the process. You could tell what all the scenes  looked like new and old. From the descriptions in the past books, and the description of the new places. You could always feel the emotions of the area rather bad, or good.

Chains of Ice

Chains of Ice (The Chosen Ones #3) by Cristina Dodd. 5 out of 5 stars. I have to say I loved this book. One of the random ones of ordered from my library not knowing that it was part of a series. This is the first book I've read by this authors and I gotta say I'm happy I found her. Yeah I know I started the series on the third book, bu the lovely words on the back had me glued to it.
"As a wildlife observer in the untamed mountains, Genny Valente had no idea that a beast more fearsome than any leopard lurked in the forest-a man, one of the Chosen Ones, betrayed by his gift and tormented by his memories. John Powell fled his fate and his duty, yet in Genny he sees his one chance for redemption. He will stalk her, kidnap her, and love her as only a savage can."
Oh yeah I was stuck.  John Powell and Genny Valente are the two main characters in this story. John Powell is known as the Yeti where he lives because he tends to wear animal skins and is really hairy. His past had horrible events happen in it, and that helped case  him go into his isolation.  As Genny puts it he ran away. While Genny is also confused about who she is because she let her father push her around for the last years of her life.  I say the guy was a complete jerk. He talks her into going on a trip because he had  her sign a contract for a loan, so she could go to collage. Now she has to do a favor for the people to have them forget the debt.  Genny goes on the trip with both her heart in it, and the purpose to pay back the debt of course she never knew that she'd fall in love.
Even the bad guys are are well written.  I understood what was going on without giving away that much of the book as I read. There were little hints from events that I think might have happened in the first two books.

Dark Protecters

Dark Protecer (Paladins of Darkness #1) by Alexis Morgan. 5 out 5 stars. I was a little weary of reading this because I ordered it from my library in a random need of more paranormal romance. I clicked a couple books and ordered a bunch of books some weren't even the first. That was my little rant. Thanks for listening
So the main characters of this story were Dr. Laurel Young and Devlin Bane. Laurel is a handler someone that revives the fallen Paladin when they die in battle. Why do they die you wonder? Because of the for ever going war against the Others. When the other cross over the border from their world and into the human world they bring the darkness over with them. So the Paladins are the one protecting the world from the darkness and Mr. Bane is one of the top people in his area so most people will listen to him and give him respect. Mr. Bane was freaking funny in my opinion he just had the he-man vibe going on, but that's what made him such a awesome character. Then add Laurel to that because she has a lot of guts. Never before had it been heard of a paladin and their handler getting together. Well boy did she change that.
the bad guys in this story were all complete idiots and let me add jerks. I gave them no respect at all and was glad when the story went the other way. Not to mention they were all very flat and lacked something in their character. I give the bad guy a 3 out 5 stars rating. The good guy character were all better and not to mention not flat. Was this done on purpose because that would make a lot more sense.
The story goes along the line of trying to find out who's smuggling jewels from the other side over because they're promising a safe trip over when they really only get to meet the tip of a sword. So now they are working on uncovering the mystery of who is the mastermind of the great plot. (I'm thinking the guy need to get some better henchmen maybe then everything would work out how he wants them too.)
The book left me wanting more so i quickly read the second book wanting to see some more Paladin action.

Beautiful and Strange Short Story Reviews

Bedtime is the first one up. It sucked me right into at the first sentence. The characters were all written well and they were the opposite of flat. Like in her comment, "This is a true story. It will stand on its own; there will be no novel or even a paragraph added to it. Nothing. It is complete."  I believe that the way it's written makes it even more haunting adding to the tension when you're reading it making it more realistic and adding to the visual. If you like a dark story and a quick read then I would try this out. 5/5 stars. Bedtime (link)

1,499 was beautiful in just the way it was written. Even when the ending was spoken of in the summery I was not expecting the way it would end. Jade and Elijah are the two people in the story with the mentioning of The Agency. This two page short story  brings out a assassin Jade's being hunted by the people she works for. Her number of kills 4,703 making her one of the best in the world. Then there is the quick attraction between the two of them. It makes me wonder rather Mr. Elijah would regret killing later in his life if the story went on.  4.5/5 stars. 1,499 (Link)

Now lastly The Will. Very creep and disturbing book for readers that like that kind of story. Beautiful and Strange said that she might be working on it after she finishes the story she's writing at the moment. I was rather shocked at how it ended and I was annoyed that it didn't go on even farther. It was like one big tease that left you wanting more. I hope Beautiful and Strange continues the story because I want to know where Phoebe ends up after all the news on this settles down and how she takes it when she grows older. Though I had to reread and see why her dad wanted their family to eat the body after he died. It was a little unclear to me, and I thought it could have been said in a more louder way. The Will (Link)

One of the Boys

One of the Boys by Karla  Michelle. Young adult fiction, Romance. One of the Boys (Link) is written on Inkpop a website for writers trying to get the chance at being published, or to just share their writing.  One of the Boys is currently ranked at 90 and on 35 pick list. I really don't know why this book isn't more popular then what it is because the story is a quick and awesome read. I give this book 4.5 stars out of 5.
Hannah Mathews the main character of this story. She's just a normal senior in high school, but with a twist. She wants to be a football player as well. Of course most people *cough-cough* (the boys) don't agree with her. Fighting not only with her team mates, but even her twin brother. But Hannah doesn't give. Having a strong personality and a will strong as iron keeps her going. Even when her oh so lovely team mates pull some mean pranks on her. It took me a little while to figure out who Hannah was going to fall in love with, but when I figured it out I knew they be a good couple. They are both alike and although (like all relationships) they can't have a smooth relationship without a few bumps in the road, and some rather bad bumps at that.
Taking place mainly in the school, field, and Hannah's home. The settings are all very comfortable and easy to go with. When I was reading I could see the stand and all the people cheering when they came out on to the foot ball field.
I have to say I normally am not a big fan of books like this, and I was a little weary at reading this. To my shock I loved it and was a sad when it ended. The ending was a little abrupt though, and that was really my only problem with the story.
Now I have to say. "I love this book! A must read for people who love this genre."

Matched

Matched by Allie Condie. Science Fiction, young adult. After a great debate of rater I wanted to give the book 3 stars, 4 star, or 5 star. 4.5/5 star won the round. I got to say I loved the book. the story was quick and easy to slip into. The characters were all well written and they all almost seemed as brainless to the higher authority. Of course we had to have Ky the 'trouble maker' in this story. He gave the book that extra flare that it needed.

I didn't like having to wait to know what the pills did. Having to wait around 50 pages before they told us the uses of the green and blue pill was a little annoying. Waiting for the reasoning of the red pill I was fine with though because it was termed a death pill, but no one really new what it really was for.
I didn't like the ending very much. It was so simple of a way to begin the next book. Really you just happen to have a camp for rebellious teens going by the river needed at the time. Not Likely! I must say. But whatever the events before the ending is what gave the book that extra .5. These future books that talk about how we are controlled in everything we do normally make me mad and annoyed, but for some reason I just have to keep reading them.  I can't wait for Crossed the second book to come out because I must know how Cassia's quest goes.

A Chalice of Wind

A chalice of Wind by Cate Tiernan. Balefire #1. Fantasy, witches, youth. This book was definitively not what I was thinking it would be about, but I still liked it. Thais Allard and Clio Martin both find each other after being separated at birth. But is this a regular switched at birth story? Nope. Add some witches, a cursed past, and killer wasps, and there is your book. The characters were written very uniquely which give this book a 4 stars out of five stars on my scale.
Thais Allard is the twin that grew up with a normal human father. She doesn't understand what's all going on, but with the help of those who do know she starts to learn the most basic stuff. She was my favorite twin in this book. Yes the quiet twin. Her father dies in a accident and she has to go live with Axelle the women who somehow was able to get the courts to magically work out her being the guardian.
Clio Martin is the one who grew up learning magic from the good old ripe age of three. She is the one living in New Orleans where she goes to her huge school and finds another Clio there. They both have the same birthmark just on opposite sides of their cheeks. Somehow the mark was passed from their mother who also had the same mark.
The story is mainly about them figuring out what all had happened. The story line didn't really start because the characters were still figuring out what was going on. I can't wait to read A Circle of Ashes. I hope that we finally get to know what's going to happen in the story. I loved the cats in the story they all seemed soreal, and poor Q-tip. Is it a witch thing to have cats because I must say that is very funny if so.

Starfire

StarFire (DemonSlayers #3)by Kate Douglas. Paranormal Romance. 4/5 star because it just didn't feel like that deep of a book compared to the last books.
Selyn and Dawson Buck are the main characters in this book along with a few chapters in other characters point of views. To me it seemed like there was a lot more switching characters then the other books.
The story was mainly about all the characterless trying to find the Demon King, freeing the Lemurian people, and all the Forgotten Ones from their lives as slaves. This all is possible because the  crystal sword can be replicated giving the true warriors a weapon while the nobleman that have swords well they never deserved to have them in the first place in my opinion.
Dawson and Selyn both get themselves some very interesting swords, and join in the war. Selyn is used against them because the Demon Kind really just wants Dax. I think that Selyn and Dawson's relationship will be the funniest out of them all since she knows very little of the human world. I'm still wondering rather Dawson's going to quit his job because killing demons, and working as a vet. Means he could be in the wrong place when a bog fight breaks out, and he could be stuck a work.
I wouldn't say this could ever be my favorite book in the series, but the cover has to be one of my all time favorite.
BumperWillow needs a more important role in this story I don't think they are living quite up to their whole potential yet. I mean she can heal and smell where the demons are. I think she would get placed a lot more in the series then the amount she is.

Bite Club

Bite Club (The Morganville Vampire #10) by Rachel Caine. Fantasy, youth. I give this book a 3/5 for a lot of reasons.
Out of all the books in this series I think this is my least favorite. I get the filler vibe off of this book. Along with the way it was written seemed different. For once we got to see inside Shane's head, and I have to say I really didn't like it. I got bored then distracted at his parts, and by the end I was skimming then. Just maybe skipping them. *Innocent Face*
Shane goes through some changes that end up making him a seem like a complete jerk. Myrnin well is just Myrnin, and he also acts as if he has a crush on Claire. Claire changes big time in this book. When she gets the choice of going MIT her dream school. She doesn't know rather she wants to or not. Then she starts to get very bossy, and demanding. Scary thing is she's manipulating like what I would call the vampires.
The story was kind of boring, and this book only got three stars because I liked the ways the book ended. The ways it should have ended in oh say another book? I been wondering if she purposely set it like that so she could have another book. I hope the next book is way better.
